Melamine Dinnerware Pricing and Cost Structure

Factory management ability

Yaxing Melamine invested millions of yuan into product quality control for developing software and hardware system and managing the production and quality control processes of melamine tableware. Our company has established a strict control system from four aspects:

Raw material control
We have strict screening criteria for raw material suppliers to select the best suppliers. They are required to provide raw material inspection report. We also conduct incoming inspection for every batch of raw materials.

Manufacturing control
During the processes of molding and decal sticking, computer is used to set procedural standards for controlling mold temperature, formaldehyde discharging and forming time.

Quality inspection control
This includes incoming material inspection, molding inspection, grinding inspection, finished products inspection and outgoing inspection.

Pest and sanitary environment control
Our manufacturing shop is installed with mosquito killing lamp, fly net and rat cage. The workers must wear work clothes, uniform hat and safety mask before entering production.

Cost management control

  1. All the running machines are real-time monitored to compare and find out the unreasonable items for improvement, thus reducing cost.
  2. CRM system is adopted to manage every process, which improves working efficiency.

Manpower management control

Automatic grinding, sealing and sandblasting equipment reduces repetitive manual work and improves production efficiency.

What Actually Drives the Unit Price

A melamine quotation is not a single number attached to a shape. Six variables move it, and a buyer who understands them can usually reduce landed cost without changing the product the customer sees.

  • Mould. An existing mould carries no tooling cost and shortens development. A new mould gives an exclusive shape and is charged separately — worth it when the shape is part of the brand, rarely worth it for a one-season programme.
  • Material specification. 30% melamine is cheaper per piece than 100% melamine, but it is rated to 70°C and is not suitable for commercial dishwashers. Specifying it into foodservice is the most expensive saving in this category.
  • Piece weight. Quoted separately from material. A heavier piece feels more substantial and resists rim chipping; a lighter piece lowers both unit cost and freight. This is usually the largest single lever a buyer controls.
  • Decoration. A plain body costs least. A single-position decal costs more, and full-surface decoration more again. The number of spot colours in a design also affects print setup.
  • Number of designs. Each design carries its own setup. Four designs across one mould costs more per piece than one design at the same total quantity.
  • Packaging. Bulk export packing is the baseline. Colour boxes, sleeves, hangtags and retail-ready display packaging each add cost and lead time.

How to Compare Two Quotations Fairly

Most quotations that look cheaper are quoting something different. Before comparing prices, confirm that both suppliers have quoted the same:

  1. Material specification — 30% or 100% melamine, stated explicitly
  2. Piece weight in grams for each item
  3. Decoration method and number of colours
  4. Packaging format, including any retail presentation
  5. Trade term — FOB, CIF or otherwise
  6. Whether tooling, artwork and sampling costs are included or quoted separately

A quotation that omits piece weight is not comparable to one that includes it. If a price looks unusually low, weight and material specification are the first two lines to check.

Where Buyers Most Often Overpay

  • Commissioning a new mould when an existing one would do. Our mould library covers most standard shapes and sizes; an existing mould often reaches the shelf faster and cheaper.
  • Over-specifying weight across the whole range. Weight matters most on the plate a customer picks up. Side pieces can often run lighter without being noticed.
  • Splitting one programme across several suppliers. Sourcing plates, bowls and drinkware separately multiplies setup, sampling and freight, and makes a coordinated look harder to achieve.
  • Skipping the sample round. Correcting colour or print position after production has started is far more expensive than a ten-day sampling cycle.
  • Leaving packaging until the end. Packaging decided late often forces a rushed, more expensive solution.

What We Need to Quote Accurately

Send the item list with quantity by item and design, the intended end use and destination market, any design or artwork direction, the packaging format, and the target delivery window. With that we can recommend the material specification and weight for each item rather than quoting a single blanket price.

Our MOQ guide explains how order structure affects minimums, and existing mould vs new mould covers the tooling decision in more detail.
